What would you do if you find yourself in a bare concrete room with a manic old man on the opposite end, with a huge, huge square gaping hole in the floor? You walk over to space where there should be more concrete, and you peer down to see several floors all the way into the darkness with people like you on each floor. I would have been scared to hell, I kid you not.
That’s exactly how Goreng felt. With only a square platform descending through the gap once a day to feed the ‘people’ and being trapped with a senile person whose answer to every question is “obvio”, he might have as well lost his sanity. The platform descended and brought food to the people on a ‘level’ that was ‘uneaten’ by the people in the levels above.

This 2019 Spanish social science fiction thriller is available on Netflix. I invite you to see the hidden treasure and implore you to ponder the hidden message underneath. The social implications it presents vis-à-vis the modern capitalist society are profound.
